Melbourne-born and bred, Melanie is a highly experienced Physiotherapist who is passionate about developing effective, tailored, and safe rehabilitation and physical preparation programs for her athletes. Melanie has worked as a physiotherapist for the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS) since 2014, is a Women’s High Performance and an Advanced Silver Men’s Gymnastics Coach. She incorporates her profound expertise in these three disciplines into her programs.
Melanie’s programs are aimed at enhancing an athlete’s overall performance or improving specific areas of an athlete’s physical capacity. For example, with dancers, Melanie can tailor specific conditioning programs that will allow them to lift their legs higher, jump with more power, or manage a long and stressful rehearsal. Her programs can also be designed to be used with confidence while on tour or at home.
Melanie has a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours from Monash University and a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from Melbourne University. In addition to her physiotherapy case load, Melanie also works as a Consultant Gymnastics Coach, as a Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Judge, and as a Pilates instructor. She has worked with dancers, gymnasts, and ice skaters among many other types of athletes and last year was invited to present to the medical team for the Western Bulldogs AFL team.
Melanie aims to empower athletes, dancers, teachers, and coaches involved in artistic endeavours by helping them to develop a greater understanding of why they do certain things during training and in their home programs, and to use this understanding to fuel improvements in their overall performance.
